For the 2024 edition of Art Basel Miami Beach, STPI – Creative Workshop & Gallery is pleased to present works by three of the most celebrated South Korean artists of our time: Lee Bul, Do Ho Suh and Haegue Yang. The booth will also showcase works by internationally-acclaimed artists Heman Chong (Singapore), Prabhavathi Meppayil (India) and Donald Sultan (USA).
Coinciding with Lee Bul’s Genesis Facade Commission at the Met, works made by the artist will be featured as part of a specially curated section of the fair – the Kabinett series. A mirrored floor will be produced for this presentation, first installed at the artist’s solo exhibition with STPI in 2023, Prints, as a reference to Lee’s Souterrain sculpture. The works, created in collaboration with our Creative Workshop, are a continued exploration of Lee’s Mon grand récit thematic interest, featuring key motifs from her oeuvre such as the (fragmented) mirror, the cyborg figure, and elements of decay.
Alongside Do Ho Suh’s solo exhibitions In Process at Moody Center for the Arts, Houston, Speculations at Art Sonje Center, Seoul and The Genesis Exhibition: Do Ho Suh at Tate Modern, London, STPI will be presenting his ground-breaking thread drawings, first created during his residency at the Creative Workshop, as well as a selection of his etchings. Suh’s works are deeply autobiographical, often characterised by a transnational dilemma of home and belonging, based on homes he has occupied prior – in Seoul, New York and London, for instance.
Haegue Yang’s Edibles series will be showcased at our booth as well, where vegetables sourced from local markets were used to create prints. Several works from this series, alongside other of Yang’s STPI works, are also on show at Flat Works 1994–2024 at The Arts Club of Chicago, Chicago, and Leap Year at Hayward Gallery, London.
Also presenting at Art Basel Miami Beach are Heman Chong’s Labyrinths (Libraries) series, part of his solo exhibition at STPI earlier this year, Meditations on Shadow Libraries. Prabhavathi Meppayil’s etchings are also featured at the booth, drawing on her familial heritage of goldsmithing.
Finally, STPI draws on its long history of artist collaborations by presenting rare works from its first residency with American artist Donald Sultan, featuring his signature imagery of fruits and flowers. This first collaboration foregrounds STPI’s history of innovation, rooted in a spirit of experimentation that has continued to push the boundaries of print and papermaking.
