Pulp Stories I
20 March - 25 April 2009
Pulp Stories I is an exhibition that surveys STPI’s past resident artists who captured the potential of print and papermaking and defied the traditional techniques of contemporary prints. The exhibition pays tribute to the artistic developments and innovations that were the result of the collaboration among the artists, Master Papermaker Richard Hungerford, Chief Printer Eitaro Ogawa, and STPI’s workshop team. Pulp Stories I highlights six artists that transformed the use of paper and paper pulp as an artistic medium.
STPI is proud to present these revolutionary works by Ashley Bickerton, Atul Dodiya, Goh Beng Kwan, Lin Tianmao, Qiu Zhijie and Hema Upadhyay. All six of these artists represent some of the pivotal figures in contemporary art, and each has pushed the limits of prints and papermaking during their residencies, creating large scale and unique paper works. The quality of works produced by these artists at STPI has enhanced the institution’s capabilities and has fostered a new confidence in making contemporary art from Singapore.
